Breakfast Briefing: The new European hotel market

European hotels are forecast to see unprecedented growth over the near-term on high occupancy levels, rising average daily room rates, and increasing RevPAR. What’s even more notable is that this growth is evenly spread across core and non-core Eurozone markets. Joseph Aminzadeh, Senior Director of Development & Acquisition, Cycas Hospitality

Joseph joined Cycas Hospitality as the Senior Director of Development & Acquisition in September 2018, bringing over 20 years of hotel development expertise. His focus is to ensure the team delivers on its goal of 10,000 rooms across Europe by 2022.

Before joining Cycas, Joseph co-founded a series of successful hotel-related businesses across Africa; the most recent being Extrabold Hotel Management, where he served as Executive Chairman for seven years.

Prior to this, Joseph jointly founded South Africa’s first specialised publicly-listed property company, Hospitality Property Fund. During his tenure he oversaw analytics, acquisitions and asset management, ensuring the fund had a portfolio of 24 hotel and resort properties when he left in 2009.

Joseph also established Horwath Tourism & Leisure Consulting in South Africa in 2000. As a member firm of Horwath International, the company specialised in market and financial analyses and raising capital for hotel projects across Africa and the Middle East.


 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Matthew Hall, Director – European Research, Invesco Real Estate

Matthew Hall joined Invesco Real Estate’s European Research team in 2013 and is responsible for the forecasting elements of Invesco Real Estate’s research, along with responsibility for covering the UK, Nordic region, European Hotels and Residential sector market information.

Matthew started working in property research in 2000, and has 18 years of experience. From starting out as a central London office market specialist, he has worked through a variety of roles throughout the real estate research industry, specialising in quantitative roles.

Prior to joining IRE, Matthew was a Director and Global Head of Forecasting at DTZ a Managing Economist at Experian and an Associate Director at CBRE. During that time, Matthew has built up experience of UK, European and Global markets in both the commercial and residential sectors. He has also spent four years leading the Finance & Funding module of the IPF diploma.

Matthew has a degree in Anthropology from Durham University and a degree in Economics from Birkbeck University.


Peter Lenhardt, Director – Transactions Hotel and Leisure Division, Principal Real Estate Europe

In his role as Director for Transactions within the Principal Hotel & Leisure Division, Peter is responsible for hotel real estate transactions and structuring. He joined Principal Real Estate Europe in 2013.

Previously, he worked for Hamilton Hotel Partners in Hotel Asset Management and Development. Peter holds a B.Sc. and BA. in Hotel Management from Glion Institute of Higher Education in Switzerland and he is a CFA Charterholder.


Richard Dawes, Director , Savills Hotel team

Richard advises vendors across the European gateway markets as well as structuring off market transactions, bringing together developers, operators and funders. He has completed numerous successful hotel investment projects across EMEA, including highlights such as the Manor Amsterdam, Adina Aparthotel Nuremberg, Innside by Melia Liverpool and Safestay portfolio sale and leaseback in Edinburgh and London. Additionally, Richard is active in hotel acquisition work, advising investors on purchases such as the Marriott Courtyard Edinburgh, Travelodge Liverpool Street London and Clayton Cardiff hotel.
